Dreamers League Rules

Spring 2026

  1. All games will be played with a 55-minute time limit.

  2. When the clock has expired, the inning in progress will be completed, and then ONE OPEN INNING will be played after the time limit.

  3. Substitute players must come from the Dreamers league, but there is no limitation to position.

  4. Substitute players must bat last in the batting order.

  5. Replacement players must be selected from the league player list provided and be at the same skill level or below.

  6. Replacement players can play in any position.

  7. Replacement players cannot be used to pinch-run.
Pinch-runners must be selected from the team’s regular roster and are limited to pinch-running once per inning.

  8. Base distance for the Dreamers league is 60’.

  9. If the score is tied after the OPEN inning, one additional inning will be played. If the game remains tied after that additional inning, the game will be recorded as a tie for each team’s won-loss record in the standings.

  10. Player statistics will not be recorded, thus eliminating the effort to maintain individual batting averages, Runs-Batted-In, and all other records of individual performance.

  11. Each team can have up to three (3) runners from home in each game.

  12. Prior to the game, the coach must identify these players to the umpire and the opposing coach.

  13. In the event of an injury during the game, the opposing coach and the league director could approve another runner from home for the injured player.

  14. DESIGNATED RUNNER RULE – NEW THIS SEASON
Designated runners must start 10 feet BEHIND home plate, a line from pitcher pound to home plate.

  15. Designated runners (DR) may not advance beyond first base AT ANY TIME, unless the ball goes out of play and the umpire awards bases to the offense.

  16. DR who makes any type of move toward 2nd base will be called out. Umpire’s judgement! (If a DR makes a move towards second base but the umpire doesn’t see it, the runner is not out but must return to first base.)

  17. If a DR is called out following a move towards second base and keeps running to confuse the defense, not only is the DR out but also the base runner closest to home will also be called out (Double play) and any other base runners will be returned to the base last touched at the time of the interference.

  18. Like every other discussion about rule interpretation only the manager or a designated player may discuss it with the umpire. In most cases, any violation will be ruled a judgement call and will not be protest able, if it is a rule interpretation only question it must be protested to the umpire and noted in the scorebook before the next pitch, and then CSSA protest rules must be followed.

  19. Face Masks for infielders are strongly encouraged.

  20. Batting helmets are recommended for all to avoid injury by an errant throw.

  21. If any player is deemed a safety hazard because of the consistent force of the ball hit off the bat, the speed of the throw, or any other style of play that endangers the senior players, the director can classify that player as ineligible to play in the Dreamers League.

  22. A player can appeal that decision to a committee which would consist of the player’s manager, the league director, Dick O’Connor, Randy Bergman, and a CSSA board member of the player’s choosing.

  23. The Dreamers League will abide by all other rules of the Lowell Lawson League specific rules and the others of the CSSA.
