About Us
Founded in 1995, the Cherokee Senior Softball Association (CSSA) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and playing slow-pitch softball. Our leagues welcome men ages 49 and older and women ages 40 and older. CSSA operates entirely through player and sponsor fees, along with the invaluable contributions of volunteers who give their time, talents, and resources to manage every aspect of the organization.
Governance & Safety
CSSA is guided by a written Constitution, By-Laws, and Code of Conduct. Our Rules of Play build upon the USA/ASA rulebooks while allowing for local adaptations that fit our community. We also uphold key safety policies, including the CSSA Concussion Protocol Policy, to protect players, umpires, scorekeepers, and spectators.
We are proud to maintain strong partnerships with the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority (CRPA) for access to Hobgood Park’s highly sought-after fields, and with Cobb County Parks and Recreation for use of Skip Wells Park.
Sponsors & Community Help
Local businesses play a vital role in sustaining CSSA. With 48 team sponsors across nine leagues, plus additional non-team contributors, we’re able to keep player fees affordable while ensuring financial stability. Championship team sponsors receive plaques to display proudly at their place of business. We encourage all members to support these businesses with gratitude and patronage.
Competitive Balance
Each season, CSSA works to create leagues and teams that emphasize competitive balance rather than age alone. This approach has proven essential to preserving the quality, integrity, and enjoyment of play. While many leagues nationwide organize strictly by age, CSSA remains committed to fairness and balance as the foundation of our success.
Volunteer Spirit
Our membership continues to grow, and with it, the need for dedicated volunteers. Opportunities range from serving on the Board of Directors to participating in committees, managing leagues, coaching teams, and assisting managers. Running leagues, schedules, scorekeeping, and statistics requires effort—these things don’t happen by magic!
Currently, a few individuals carry the load for many. To remain a premier senior softball organization, CSSA needs more hands, more voices, and more ideas. Volunteering may not always be easy, but it is deeply rewarding and vital to our continued growth.
